Ohawu University Dream Gains Momentum as Hon Eric Edem Agbana, Volta Chiefs Meet Education Minister

The push to transform Ohawu Agricultural College into a fully-fledged university has gained fresh momentum following a high-level engagement between Ketu North MP Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, traditional leaders from the Volta Region and the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu.

Hon. Agbana joined the President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbi Tepre Hodo IV; the Vice President, Togbi Dzekle Patamia VII; the Paramount Chief of the Afife Traditional Area, Togbui Adrakpanya VI; the Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC and his Vice Chairman; and a delegation from the Afife Traditional Council for the engagement with the Education Minister.

The meeting focused primarily on the proposed upgrade of Ohawu Agricultural College into a fully-fledged university, a vision championed by Hon. Agbana as part of efforts to expand access to quality tertiary education and create greater opportunities for young people in the region.

Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Hon. Agbana expressed optimism about the government's commitment to the initiative.

According to him, the Education Minister indicated that Government will begin the process by providing the necessary infrastructure and resources, after which the appropriate legislative framework will be pursued to formally establish the university.

The proposed transformation is expected to give the institution a broader mandate and create opportunities for students to pursue higher-level education, particularly in agriculture and related fields.

Beyond the Ohawu University proposal, the delegation also raised concerns about critical infrastructure needs in selected schools across the Volta Region, highlighting the importance of improving the learning environment for students and teachers.

Hon. Agbana commended the Education Minister for his openness and willingness to engage traditional authorities and other stakeholders in addressing the educational needs of the region.

The engagement marks another step forward in the push for the Ohawu University project, with stakeholders expressing their commitment to working together to turn the vision into reality.

For Hon. Agbana, the initiative is part of a broader commitment to building sustainable educational opportunities that will serve the people of the Volta Region and generations to come.
